Tristan Raheem “Benz” Armstrong surrendered to the police after being convinced by relatives to do so following the issuance of a Wanted Bulletin for him in connection with several crimes.
The 28-year-old man, who last resided in Tyrells, reportedly agreed to meet relatives and friends in St. John’s yesterday morning, and they subsequently handed him over to the police at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). This is according to one of the individuals who assisted in the effort to get him into police custody without being harmed.
The individual requested anonymity.
It was on Saturday that the police put out a bulletin, saying Armstrong and 27-year-old Sevorn “Angry Bird” Burton of Gray’s Farm were wanted for aggravated robbery, kidnapping, possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, and drug-related offences.
There was no word from the police up to late yesterday regarding whether Burton was in custody.
He was described as slimly built, approximately five feet, nine inches tall and dark in complexion. He weighs between 140-150 lbs.
On Saturday lawmen said, “Both men are believed to be armed, and as such are considered extremely dangerous.”
The police further appealed for both men to immediately turn themselves in.
Lawmen also stated, “Anyone knowing their whereabouts is asked to contact the Serious Crimes Unit at 728-9800, or the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or 462-3914.”
Once the notice began circulating, relatives searched for Armstrong and convinced him that it was safer to surrender than be hunted down by the police.
