The local attorney representing wanted billionaire diamond dealer, Mehul Choksi, has confirmed that his client is ill, saying he has a serious cardiac condition and is on medical care in Antigua and Barbuda.
Dr. David Dorsett told OBSERVER media exclusively that the Indian national who gained Antigua and Barbuda’s citizenship under the Citizenship by Investment Programme (CIP) was actually in the U.S. earlier this year obtaining care when the Indian government, “for improper reasons” turned on him.
Last week India’s media reported that Choksi was not medically fit to travel to India from Antigua to answer fraud charges.
Yesterday, Dorsett confirmed that Choksi is under medical supervision and in regular receipt of medication.
He added that the fraud accused is still not out of the woods and must safeguard his life first but refrained from responding to the question as to whether Choksi will return to India to face the allegations against him when his health improves.
Choksi, who reportedly left India to seek medical attention in January of this year has been fingered in a $2 billion-dollar Punjab bank Fraud. He has maintained his innocence all along.
