Walsh Jr and Cornwall Spin Hurricanes to Victory Over West Indies Academy at Coolidge

Spinner Hayden Walsh Jr picked up a five-for, claiming five wickets for 24 runs in 6.5 overs in the second innings. Rahkeem Cornwall claimed a total of seven wickets for 74 runs in the match. Jahmar Hamilton top scored with 81 in the Leeward Islands first Innings.

The Leeward Islands Hurricanes romped to a 402 runs triumph over West Indies Academy within three days of their opening match in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Four Day Championships here at the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG).

Chasing an improbable 502 for victory, West Indies Academy were removed for just 100 on day three of the contest to hand Hurricanes the comfortable win. Vice captain of the Hurricanes team, Hayden Walsh Jr picked up a five-for, claiming five wickets for 24 runs in 6.5 overs. He was assisted by Captain Rahkeem Cornwall who claimed four for 41 in 13 overs. Colin Archibald had one for nine in four overs. Justin Jagessar top scored for Academy with 26 off 85 deliveries.

Hurricanes had posted 289 for 9 declared in their second innings with three players getting half centuries. Archibald hit a top score of 61 from 60 balls including seven fours and two sixes while Jewel Andrew made 57 off 48 with 10 fours and one six. There was a half century as well for Shelton Forbes who made 53 from 135 deliveries.

Earlier, after being asked to bat, Hurricanes posted 358 all out in 103.2 overs. Jahmar Hamilton top scored with 81 off 154 deliveries, striking 11 fours on his way. There was a half century as well from Karima Gore who made 59 from 126 ball with five fours and three sixes. Cornwall fell one short of his half century at 49 off 42 ball with six fours and two sixes. Kadeem Henry chipped in with 48 from 141 balls, striking nine fours while Joshua Grant chipped in with 34.

Bishop was the pick of the bowlers for Academy with seven for 85 from 32 overs.

In their first time at the crease, Academy were all out for 145, there best effort with the bat coming from Carlon Bowen-Tuckett who made 34 off 80 balls. Rivaldo Clarke chipped in with 29.

There were three wickets each for Cameron Pennyfeather and Cornwall who bagged three for 15 and three for 33 respectively. Archibald and Jeremiah Louis contributed to the bowling efforts with two for 48 and one for 40 respectively.

Also on Friday, Guyana Harpy Eagles beat Barbados Pride by 10 wickets.
