Visiting Canadian team wins Gillian Brazier tournament

The visiting Canadian team, Juel of Ontario, defeated a courageous Purple Heart 57 – 22 on Sunday night at the JSC Sports Complex, capturing the revived Gillian Brazier Basketball Championship title following a clean sweep of their opponents.
Although a tense and physical game, the tourists put on another clinical performance in their passing, defense and shooting to establish a 30-15 lead at the half.
Claire Sutherland and Ciara Emery took control for Juel of Ontario, shooting 17 and 10 points, respectively, while Lydia Abraham grabbed five rebounds and added six points.
Purple Heart’s power came from Britney Gore who controlled the boards with 16 rebounds and 11 points. Rayana Regis was restrained to six points, six rebounds and three block shots.
All three teams of the tournament will contest an All-Star match-up today, starting at 3:30 pm at the JSC Sports Complex. This will be followed by a short closing ceremony and presentation of awards.
Meanwhile, the second of two basketball clinics was conducted at the Old Road Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.
