Villa shooting leaves man in ICU

In less than a week, Jermaine “Six Months” Destin was twice the target of a shooting in Villa. But unlike the first incident on Monday night, yesterday’s brazen daylight attack has left him fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit at Mount St John’s Medical Centre.

The 32-year-old Villa resident was shot twice in the abdomen by a masked gunman at the junction of Jazbo Corner and Athill Street some time around 9:15 am.

Residents reported that the latest shooting might be linked to an ongoing feud between the victim and another man.

An eyewitness to the morning shooting told The Daily OBSERVER that he saw a man alight from a white Toyota Corolla on Bennett Street, which runs parallel to Athill Street.

The man, who was said to be wearing dark clothing and a mask, walked east through an abandoned building which led him near the junction of Athill Street and Jazbo Corner, where Destin and two other men stood talking.

According to the witness, the masked man walked up to the trio, pushed one of the men aside and opened fire on Destin.

The shooting victim fell, his two friends fled and so did the shooter, who left in the direction from which he came, the witness recounted.

“He (the shooter) pushed one of the guys and then he shot Six Months,” the witness said.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and rushed the injured youth to the hospital, where he was immediately taken into the operating theatre.

Meantime Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers cordoned off the scene and went in search of Destin’s shooter.

Persons with information on these or any other offences are urged to contact CID at 4623913(4), Crime Stoppers at 800 TIPS (8477) or the nearest police station.
