Captain Jonathan van Lange played a brutal knock against the Leeward Islands in the Cricket West Indies Rising Stars Under 17 Men Championship in Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday.
Chasing 95 to win on the final day, the captain launched an attack on the hapless bowlers of the Leewards, smashing seven sixes in a 31-ball 65 as his team raced down the target in just 7.1 overs without loss to record their first victory of the tournament.
Earlier in the match, Leeward Islands were bowled out for 144 with De-Antre Drew top-scoring with, while Golcharran Chulai snapped up four for 34 in 15 overs. In reply, Guyana were bowled out for 176 as Romesh Bharrat top-scored with 33 and Is-rael Morton had five for 44. In the Leeward Islands second innings, Drew again top-scored with 40, while Chulai had six for 28 to end with match figures of nine for 62.
It is the Leeward Island second loss of the two day competition which put them firmly at the bottom of the standings. They will meet Jamaica on Tuesday in the final round of the two day competition.
