The Political Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP) issued a late-night message to supporters on Sunday, calling for the party’s supporters to remain “resilient and steadfast” amidst the resignation of Dr Edmond Mansoor.
In a video message widely circulated throughout social media, Jamale Pringle said the UPP remains committed to its vision for Antigua and Barbuda.
“Dr Mansoor’s defection has caused many persons to question whether loyalty and integrity are of any value these days.
“It has also caused some to speculate and declare that the UPP is crumbling or imploding. I want to make it very clear that his defection has little or nothing to do with the direction in which the UPP is going,” Pringle said.
Dr Mansoor, who was a 30-year veteran within the UPP, was also lauded for developing the party’s ICT policy during its time in office.
Public opinion has been swift in response to the news of Dr Mansoor’s resignation, with many questioning the party’s internal dynamics.
However, Pringle sought to put the spotlight on Dr Mansoor for defecting, claiming he was “morally and financially” weak.
“Meanwhile, I take this opportunity to encourage our members, our supporters and our well-wishers not to be distracted. Make no mistake, the results of the last election alarmed the ALBP, and as a result, they have devised a well-funded strategy to derail this organisation and to pick off the morally and financially weakest in our party,” he noted.
He encouraged the party’s supporters not to be distracted but to remain resilient and steadfast.
“The broken sword shall be reforged, we recognise and appreciate those who have reaffirmed their loyalty, commitment, and love for our party,” he said.
