The Opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) is demanding that government announces reduction in fuel prices in the Budget presentation.
UPP Public Relations Officer, Senator Damani Tabor told OBSERVER media that his party is expecting Prime Minister Gaston Browne to reveal a drop in fuel cost during Friday’s much anticipated presentation.
“We, the UPP, demand that Gaston Browne, in the next Budget, carry down the gas and electricity.
There are islands in the Caribbean that pay $9 per gallon, and we are still at $12.50.
“Everybody in this country pays an extra $40 on every $100 on your electric bill, because the fuel variation is way higher than it should be,” Tabor declared.
The senator said fuel variation should now be 20 cents per kilowatt hour and that crude oil has dropped from its highest by more than half.
He urged the government “to give the people the much needed relief they need in fuel, which would ultimately translate to a reduction in food and goods.”
Tabor also questioned why government was focused on fixing Friars Hill Road, where there were some areas in the country without roads.
“Why spend all of this money fixing Friars Hill Road, which is in a decent condition when there are other roads that need to be addressed. It is a matter of priority,” he added.
