Labour Minister Steadroy Benjamin told Observer on Friday afternoon that he has met with the Labour Commissioner Eltonia Rojas and other people in the ministry’s management, to address several issues brewing at the Labour Department.

He said, “I was informed today that there was a matter at the Labour Department which needed my attention. I convened a meeting with the Permanent Secretary, the parliamentary representative in that area, the Labour Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner, and the Principal Assistant Secretary. Discussions are ongoing, and the meeting will continue on Monday at 10 o’clock at the Labour Department.”

The Labour Minister chose not to disclose what the other issues were, but said he hopes for a speedy resolution.

“In the meantime, I am hoping that things will proceed normally until the meeting has been reconvened on Monday to address all problems identified,” he said.Monday’s meeting, according to the Minister, will address all matters of concern at the Labour Department.

Observer reported on a ruckus earlier today at the department between Rojas and staff over an apparent ban on wearing jeans in the office.
