Former national goal shoot Karen Joseph has been re-elected for a fourth straight two-year term as President of the Antigua and Barbuda Netball Association (ABNA).
Joseph was returned unopposed as head of the organisation when the body held its electoral congress on Tuesday at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium Conference Room.
Speaking on the Good Morning Jojo sports show, the former national captain said the newly elected body must focus on the development aspect of the players and officials going forward.
“We have a lot of work to be done in Antigua where netball is concerned, mainly where our umpires and scorers are concerned. The scorers are not an issue per se but we need to have more umpires’ seminars and clinics to upgrade our umpires because that is what is lacking,” she said.
Joseph is joined by other former national players in Amey Lake as First Vice President, Kennesia Cabral as Second Vice President, Chaka Grant as Honorary Treasurer, Sanchez Martin as Assistant Secretary Treasurer and Shirley George-Benjamin as Honorary Secretary.
Jamila Fits, Dr Anike Anthony and Alphonsine Lake were elected as Floor Members.
The newly re-elected Joseph said she will meet with her new executive in due course to plot the way forward.
“We have to meet as an executive next week to put our plans forward. There is a lot of work that needs to be done for netball and especially for the grassroots. We have to start to get some programmes in place in the communities on a weekly basis and those are things we are looking forward to because we want to tap into that source in terms of the communities in the under-13s, the under-16s an dunder-21s from the community areas,” she said.
A total of six of eight registered clubs were present at Tuesday night’s meeting.
