The Liberta Blackhawks, for the first time this season, are not at the bottom of the standings in the Premier Division, following a 1-0 victory over former champions SAP on Sunday.
In the feature contest of a triple-header at the Antigua Recreation Ground (ARG), Blackhawks had their lone strike come from Jared Williams in the first half. Then, with all 10 men behind the ball, Blackhawks were able to keep the SAP attackers at bay for the remainder of the contest.
The welcomed victory placed Blackhawks ninth in the 10-team standings with nine points after 11 showings, while SAP’s lukewarm season continued with their fifth loss in 11 matches. They are fifth in the standings with 14 points.
In another surprising result, Pigotts Bullets emerged 1-0 victors over championship contenders Grenades FC in Sunday’s second fixture.
Striker Jordon Schomoker proved the hero of the match with his 36th minute conversion which would eventually proved the nail in the coffin of the Grenades team.
The triumph pushes bullets onto 11 points and seventh in the standings, while Grenades, following what was their second loss of the competition, remains third in the standings with 21 points after 11 showings
Meanwhile, Glavilles FC was relegated to the bottom of the table following a 3-1 loss to Old Road in the opening contest.
Edroy Williams opened the scoring for Old Road in minute 24 before an own-goal by Glanvilles’ goalkeeper, Zeon Armstrong, gave Old Road a further advantage in minute 51. Steve Brodrick put the icing on the cake for Old Road in minute 86.
The victory moves Old Road to 18 points and fourth in the standings as they seek to stay in the hunt for another title.
Kimiani Benjamin scored the lone goal for Glanvilles in minute 43 but Glanvilles remains on eight points after 11 matches at the bottom of the 10-team standings.
