The Under-12 girl’s tennis team settled for a third-place finish in the recently concluded Sub-region 4 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Central American and Caribbean Tennis Federation (COTECC) Under-12 tournament in Trinidad and Tobago.
The 2017 champions could not make it two in a row after falling to Trinidad and Tobago’s ‘A’ team on Thursday, but they bounced back to secure the bronze medal after defeating the host team’s ‘B’ contingent in all three matches on Friday at the National Racquet Centre in Tacariqua.
Number-two-seeded, Ariel Kelsick, flexed her muscles on Inara Chin Lee, winning comfortably in straight sets, 6-1,6-3 on Court 2.
Brasha Dyer joined Kelsick in the winner’s circle after handing Trinidad’s Jaeda-Lee Daniel-Joseph a 6-4, 6-1 thrashing.
Both ladies then partnered, trouncing the team of Daniel-Joseph and Kiera Youssef, 6-1, 6-2.
The boys however could not secure a medal at the championships as they were defeated by Curacao, settling for a fourth-place finish.
Cody Ritter had the better of Justyn Raeburn winning their singles encounter, 6-1, 6-1 while Kyan Henriquez defeated Jaydon Marcano, 3-6, 0-6.
Doubles partners, Xaveek Toppin and Jaydon Marcano, despite putting up a valiant fight, were edged in the tie break, 8-10, after winning the second set, 6-1, and falling in the first, 5-7 to Henriquez and Zahyd Joseph.
Curacao claimed the girls’ title while Trinidad and Tobago’s ‘A’ team walked away with the boys’ trophy.
