It was a great day overall for Team Wadadli at the ongoing Subregion 4 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Central American and Caribbean Tennis Federation (COTECC) Under-12 tournament at the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua, Trinidad and Tobago.
The boys’ team recorded their first win at the tournament dominating Guyana in all three matches on Wednesday.
The championships follow the same format of the Davis and Fed Cup where each country in the pool plays two singles and a doubles match.
Number-two-seeded, Justyn Raeburn got the ball rolling for the boys’ team winning; 6-0, 6-1 while teammate and number one seeded, Jaydon Marcano, had a tougher fight but still rose to the top winning, 6-3, 6-2.
Marcano later teamed up with Xaveek Toppin in their doubles encounter, overpowering Guyana in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
Defending girls’ champions continued their undefeated streak, pushing it to 3-0 after defeating number-one-seeded and host, Trinidad and Tobago.
Number-two-seeded, Aysha Hosam dominated her singles match-up winning the encounter, 6-0, 6-2.
Brasha Dyer, the number one seeded player joined Hosam in the winner’s circle quite comfortably, winning her match, 6-1, 6-2.
Dyer, who later partnered with Ariel Kelsick, won their doubles bout defeating Trinidad and Tobago, 6-2, 6-3.
Both the girls and boys teams will now turn their attention to gaining a top-four position in their respective categories.
Both teams will face-off host, Trinidad and Tobago.
