Fire Chief Elvis Weaver has confirmed to Observer that two of nine fire officers quarantined after being exposed to Covid-19 have tested positive for the virus.

The two officers remain in quarantine, along with the seven others who are said to have tested negative.

The Fire Prevention Unit where they worked has also been quarantined.

Those who tested negative will have to do a second Covid test before they can go back into the community.

The Ministry of Health will now have to conduct contact tracing for the two positive workers.

The officers were quarantined earlier this week after a coworker who travelled to St Vincent tested positive for coronavirus on arrival.

That officer is said to be asymptomatic and is being monitored in St Vincent.

Ministry of Health officials did not respond to requests for comment up to press time.
