T&T, Guyana register convincing wins

BASSETERRE, St Kitts (CMC) – Trinidad and Tobago continued their march towards the Regional Under-19 one-day crown with a convincing nine-wicket win over ICC Americas in the fifth round in St Kitts on Thursday.
Chasing a modest 96 for victory at Molyneaux, the Trinidadians cruised to the target off a mere 12.2 overs, with Cephas Cooper stroking an attacking, unbeaten 56.
He faced just 39 deliveries and blasted five fours and sixes, dominating an 84-run unbroken second wicket partnership with Keagan Simmons who finished 19 not out.
Off-spinner Aaron Maniram had earlier taken five for 14 as ICC Americas, opting to bat first, were dismissed for 95 off 45.4 overs.
Captain Akashdeep Gill top-scored with 40 off 88 deliveries to be the only batsman in double figures.
At Conaree, openers Joshua Persaud and Raymond Perez struck unbeaten half-centuries as Guyana trounced Barbados by 10 wickets.
In pursuit of 167, Guyana coasted courtesy of 85 from Young West Indies player Persaud and 75 from Perez.
Persaud faced 124 balls and struck six fours and a six while Perez counted six fours in a 111-ball innings.
Barbados had earlier been dismissed for 166 off 45.2 overs after choosing to bat first, with opener Shian Brathwaite top-scoring with 59.
Brathwaite faced 99 deliveries and struck seven fours and a six, putting on 53 for the first wicket with Nico Reifer (17) and another 40 for the second wicket with Kadeem Alleyne (24).
At Verchilds, Leeward Islands managed to defend 163 to beat Jamaica by 44 runs.
