Tropical Disturbance AL98, located about 1000 miles east of the Lesser Antilles, is showing signs of organization and likely to develop into a tropical depression or storm within the next couple of days.

As it approaches the Leeward Islands, including Antigua and Barbuda, tropical storm watches are expected to be issued today.

The system has a high chance (70% in 48 hours, 90% in 7 days) of further development.

However, according to local meteorologist Dale Destin of 268Weather, the likelihood of it reaching Category 1 hurricane strength before reaching Antigua and Barbuda is very low. It is most likely to remain a tropical storm.

Residents should monitor the system’s progress closely, as watches or warnings may be required soon.

The disturbance could affect the islands in the coming days, potentially bringing increased rainfall and winds. Further updates are expected as the system evolves.
