Three people charged with unlawful possession of drugs and ammunition have been remanded to prison to await trial.
On Friday, police arrested and charged 33-year-old Shermain Harris, 31-year-old Nickayal Blaize and 24-year-old Nichol Thomas, all of Scott’s Hill, with possession of 42.4 grams of cannabis and 89 blank  rounds of .22 ammunition, ten rounds of 9mm ammunition, four rounds of .38 ammunition and one .380 ammunition round.
The trio appeared before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh in the St John’s Magistrates’ Court where they were sent to prison since that court has no jurisdiction to grant bail, although the case could be tried summarily.
Blaize was further charged with possession of 115.6 grams of cannabis.
Officers from the Criminal Investigations Department executed a search warrant on their Scott’s Hill home and found the illegal items. The items were seized and the trio was arrested and taken into custody.
Meanwhile, 39-year old Lev Josiah of Paynters was fined $2,500 on charges of possession with intent to transfer, and unlawful possession of camouflage clothing.
The chief magistrate imposed a fine of $2,000 for the military apparel and a further sum of $500 for the possession of 15.9 grams of cannabis. The fines were to be paid by the close of business yesterday or the convict who pleaded guilty would spend time in prison.
On Saturday night, police officers were conducting stop and search exercises in Martin’s Village when they came across Josiah’s vehicle parked alongside the road and searched it in his presence.
Several small resealable bags containing cannabis were recovered. The police detained the Paynter’s
man and seized the drugs, a camouflage pant and large sums of EC and US currencies.
In April, police arrested and charged Josiah while he was attempting to leave the V. C. Bird International Airport, without declaring over US$20,000. That matter is pending in the All Saint’s Magistrates’ Court.
