The Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) announced a 31-member training squad that will contest the newly introduced CONCACAF Nations Cup.
The squad, which will be cut to a final 20, will be in action in a number of friendly matches with their opening encounter tomorrow at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket stadium at 7 p.m. versus Bermuda and then on Sunday in Jamaica.
The Benna Boys will also play Dominica on April 1 and Jamaica in a home game that same month.
Twenty-three locals and eight overseas players were selected as announced by ABFA Press Officer, Troy Gibson.
Of the eight overseas players, two of them will be youth players who, as stated by Gibson, “will be looked at during these friendlies for possible selection to the Under 20 and Under17 teams.”
Those eight overseas-based players include goalkeeper, Brentton Muhammad (Tindastoll FC); Defenders: Zaine Francis-Angol (AFC Fylde FC), Daniel Bowry (Charlton Athletic FC), Luther James-Wildin (Nuneaton Town FC) and Mahlon Romeo (Millwall FC); Mid-fielders: Calaum Martin (Newport Town FC), Joshua Parker (Gillingham FC); and Forward: Myles Weston (Ebbsfleet FC).
The locally based players include: Prince Walter, Vashami Allen and Kieron Richards – Grenades FC’s; Molvin James, Omarie Daniel, Mervyn Hazelwood – Tryum FC as well as Brent Parker, Juwan Roberts, Joel Jacobs and Kendulkar Challenger of Swetes FC and Marvin Martin of Pigotts Bullets.
Former champions, Parham had 3 selections – Akeem Thomas, Karanja Mack and Tevaughn Harriette – while the 2017-18 champions, Greenbay Hoppers boasted 4 selections: Jamal Stevens, Eugine Kirwan, Javorn Stevens and Tamarley Stevens.
Old Road’s Raheem Deterville and Stefan Smith were also selected as was Peter Byers of SAP FC.
Rounding off the squad is Brandon Emmanuel of Five islands and local overseas based player, Quinton Griffith (Charleston Battery).
Gibson also confirmed the return of Derrick “Pretty-boy” Edwards as Head Coach and Rolston “Debu” Williams as Technical Director of the team.
“As far as I am aware, we still have the same coaching staff headed by Pretty-boy and also Debu will be coming in and continuing his role as TD.
“We, as an Association, and I am sure the coaching staff as well, will be supporting Debu in any way he needs but only he can say whether his health will hamper his input in the upcoming friendlies.”
