It’s another good year for sports for the Grays Green community as the Massy United Grays Green Tigers secured the Mixed Division title in the Antigua and Barbuda Netball Association (ABNA) league.
With the match playing at the YMCA Sports Complex on Tuesday night the Tigers finished their campaign with a 5-0 record, defeating Invincible Stars, 36-28 in the feature encounter.
Despite a valiant effort by former national player, Esther Emmanuel, who had 16 of 22 attempts, and Carl “Stamalan” Kirby with 12 of 19, Invincible Stars could not get over the hump to hand the Tigers their first loss of the season.
Randy Frederick led the Tigers to victory in what was considered their toughest battle yet, scoring an impressive 23 of 31 attempts.
He was assisted by youngster, Adina Andre, who sank seven of her eight attempts and Carlton Albert who netted six of 11.
Jennell Willette, vice-captain of the Tigers, congratulated her team on their impeccable performance.
“I have to congratulate my team on a job well done in securing the Mixed title. It’s a proud moment for the Grays Green community to know that we could go win the title and go undefeated despite not having a suitable home court but against the odds we did it and I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of the Grays Green family.”
In the lone A Division encounter, Sagicor Life Enforcers trounced Hon Michael Browne Black Lightning, 27-17.
Sharon Francis led Enforcers, netting 14 of her 25 attempts while teammate, Christine Mills, chipped in sinking 13 of 21.
National junior player, Rayanna Regis, made 12 of her 16 attempts for Black Lightning with teammate, Karol Carlton sinking five of 12 attempts.
