The Weather268 service, led by meteorologist Dale Destin, has issued a thunderstorm alert for Antigua and Barbuda this evening. Residents are advised to stay vigilant and prepared for potential severe weather.

According to the forecast, there is a 50% chance of thunderstorms occurring this evening, with the probability decreasing to 40% tonight before 2 am. Despite the probabilistic nature of the forecast, authorities are urging citizens to take necessary precautions.

The weather service emphasizes the potential dangers associated with thunderstorms, including the risk of death, injury, and damage to electronic devices and appliances.

Residents are strongly advised to seek immediate shelter indoors at the first signs of a thunderstorm, such as hearing thunder or seeing lightning.

As a safety measure, it’s recommended to wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunderclap before resuming any outdoor activities.

The current weather pattern is influenced by a tropical wave affecting the area. Rainfall accumulations are expected to range between 5 and 15 millimetres over a 24-hour period.
