Opera lovers enjoyed three nights of memorable performances recently as the Antigua Opera Society and their guests — a group of opera singers from Italy – staged aptly themed renditions of “Friendship and Devotion”; “Passion and Vendetta”; and “True Love” at the National Sailing Academy, Clarence House, and Blue Waters Hotel.

Governor General Sir Rodney and Lady Williams were in attendance at each evening’s performance.

At the grand finale on Tuesday evening, Sir Rodney congratulated all the performers, especially the Italians who made a special effort to sing at the “bravura” performance – an impressive technical skill that is shown in an artistic performance or work.

He also thanked all the singers and the benefactors as he noted that opera and Antigua were a natural fit.

All proceeds from the three nights’ performances benefit the Antigua Opera Society.
