The government contemplates more duty-free zones

The government says it is again considering creating more special economic zones across Antigua – in particular, duty free zones.
Minister of Information Melford Nicholas says the aim is to entice more commercial activity in select locations.

He adds that the governments also contemplating other special economic zones for industry and for the movement of goods.
Nicholas says the hurdle to operationalizing the zones in bring the requisite legislation to Parliament.

Antigua has a duty free are in heritage quay St John’s. There is also a special economic zone in Coolidge and at the Crabbs Peninsula operated by Yida International Investment.
