One of the three men allegedly involved in last month’s police shootout in Ebenezer has been remanded to prison shortly after being discharged from hospital.

On Tuesday, law enforcement arrested and charged Koeina Joseph, an 18-year-old resident of Cooks New Extension.

He was charged with aggravated robbery, unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm, unlawful possession of 9mm ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a crime.

Joseph, who was released from hospital on Tuesday afternoon, appeared before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel on Wednesday.

The magistrate ordered him to be remanded to His Majesty’s Prison.

The charges stem from an incident on August 15, when Joseph and accomplices allegedly robbed Calt Mini Mart in Parham making off with EC$1,500.

Police were alerted and subsequently intercepted the alleged robbers’ car in Ebenezer. The incident culminated in an armed confrontation with officers.

Widely circulated social media videos depicted three men lying on the ground in the Ebenezer area along Valley Road.

Joseph and 31-year-old Clinton Oliver were hospitalised, while 28-year-old Jamar Smith was killed. Oliver was discharged a few days ago.

Joseph’s next hearing is set for December 4.
