A suspect was in police custody up to yesterday, being questioned about allegations he had sex with a girl below the 16-year age of consent.
The young man from Bolans is said to be in his twenties and has been assisting police as they probe the complaint that he statutorily raped the 15-year-old girl.
The man was picked up on Tuesday.
The sex offence complaint was filed at the Johnson’s Point Police Station on February 4, the same day the sexual assault was allegedly committed.
The incident reportedly occurred around 7 p.m. at a property in Jennings New Extension.
At this stage, the media cannot reveal the identity of the alleged offender. This can only be done, in respect of the perpetrator, if there is a conviction – and at no time should the identity of the complainant or victim ever be disclosed – as per the Sexual Offences Act.
