Barbados – A 22-year-old student will have to find time in his timetable to complete 80 hours of community service.
Magistrate Douglas Frederick imposed the order on Andre Tremayne Williams, of #21 6th Avenue Friendship Terrace South, St Michael, after he pleaded guilty to having a quantity of cannabis within a hundred yards of the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic.
The illicit drug, which weighed 1.5 grammes, was found on his person Monday morning when security at the institution conducted their normal checks.
Police were called in and Williams was arrested.
He returns to court on June 2.
In another case also heard by Magistrate Frederick this morning, three men – two of them currently housed at HMP Dodds – had a five-year-old charge dismissed.
Prince Hugh Brown, of Buttals Tenantry, St George; Richan Robert Walrond of Back Ivy, St Michael; and Micah Stephen Elisah Grant, of no fixed place of abode, were accused of robbing Dacosta Cadogan of a motorcar worth $17,500, a cellular phone worth $500, a wallet worth $170, BDS$50 and US$25 in cash, on February 23, 2012.
Walrond was also separately charged with having 30 rounds of ammunition in his possession on March 9, 2012 without a valid licence.
However, when the matter came up again before Magistrate Frederick, the prosecutor informed the court that he was still not in possession of a file to start the case.
Given the vintage of the matter, the magistrate dismissed the case for want of prosecution
