The Police K-9 Unit has made another successful drug seizure at the General Post office on Tuesday.
Officers within the unit conducted a routine check at the main post office with the use of the K-9 dogs, and were alerted to a cardboard box with food items. The box was searched and three pounds of Cannabis was found wrapped in six transparent packages. The drugs were seized and taken to Police Headquarters, pending further investigations into the matter.
Meantime, Devon McIntosh of Buckleys is currently in police custody assisting the police in their investigations, after he was found with Cannabis in his possession. On Tuesday, officers within the K-9 Unit were at the Heritage Quay Pier checking the Barbuda Ferry, when they were alerted to a reusable shopping bag by the K-9 dogs containing fish. The police kept the bag under surveillance until McIntosh showed up at the Pier to clear it. He was arrested and taken into custody. The bag was searched, and one pound of Cannabis and an undisclosed sum of money was found. The money and the substance was seized and taken to Police Headquarters.
Just about a week ago, Andre Simmons of Dickenson Bay Street was charged with several drug related charges, after attempting to clear a package at the said post office. The package, which allegedly came from Canada, contained two speaker boxes with 244.5 Grams of Cannabis and 99 Ecstasy tablets concealed inside of them. He has since appeared before the Court and was granted bail. Also a week ago, the said K-9 Unit seized 21 ¾ pounds of Cannabis, which was found among two barrels of food items at the Deep Water Harbour. This matter is still under investigation.
