Stingerz and Steelers get big wins in top flight basketball

Northside Stingerz recorded their second straight victory in Division One of the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association’s competition on Sunday, beating former champions, Flyers Basketball, 111-94 at the JSC basketball complex.

Playing the feature game of a double-header, Stingerz were led by James Barbee Jr with 28 points while Keroi Lee added 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Stingerz also had a good showing from Devorn Benjamin who sank 13 points.

In a losing effort, Xavier Meade led the scoring for Flyers with 26 points while there were contributions of 18 and 14 points, respectively, from Kenya Ahcom and Kwame Brathwaite.

The loss was Flyers’ first in two showings, while Stingerz remain perfect in the same number of matches.

In Sunday night’s opening showdown, Potters Steelers dismantled Vertex, 93-54, to record their second win of the competition.

Cohen Desouza had a game-high 21 points as he led the scoring for Steelers. He also grabbed a total of 14 rebounds. Kareem Edwards had 18 points and eight rebounds, while Jacob Lloyd assisted with 11 points.

In a losing effort, Isaac Bragg netted 14 points and snatched eight rebounds, while Kelvin Simon contributed 11 points.
