Stingerz and Ovals draw first blood

Northside Stingerz and F and G Trading Cuties Ovals Ojays both drew first blood in their best of three first round playoff series matches on Sunday night at the JSC Sports Complex.

Stingerz was the first of the two teams to go 1-0 up as they dominated Yorks Crushers, trouncing them 80-64.

Keroi “Dragon” Lee led the charge for the victors with 26 points and 10 rebounds while teammate James Barbee Jr chipped in netting 19.

National player, Vivian “Boast” Destin contributed, scoring 16 points, grabbing six rebounds and making seven assists.

Crushers’ Cohen Desouza had 13 points 15 rebounds and eight assists.

Decosta Walbrook also had 13 points but added six rebounds to his tally.

Teammates, Olivee Morris and Jamie Harris also got in on the action sinking 10 points.

Harris however grabbed an additional 13 rebounds.

Meanwhile in the feature encounter, the back to back league champions, F and G Trading Cuties Ovals Ojays sent a clear message that they meant business in this year’s playoffs as the Ojays hammered Hometech Systems Outlaws 105-73.

Despite a great start by the Outlaws, the Ojays led by Joshua Minner with a game-high 37 points, quickly rebounded and dominated the encounter.

Minner was assisted by skipper Marlon “Buju” Charles who had 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Teammates, Raviel Burton and Bryan “Hollywood” Matthew contributed netting 13 and 12 points respectively.

Burton grabbed an additional eight rebounds while Matthew snatched seven.

Outlaws’ Jason London had 20 points and seven assists while teammates Darren Jeanville and Ishaan Peets chipped in scoring 17 and 13 points.

Andrew “Puss” Venture also of Outlaws had 12 points and 13 assists in a losing effort.

Game 2 of both matches will be played on Wednesday night at the JSC Sports Complex.
