Steelers ground Flyers while Da Project stun Stingerz in Division 1 basketball

Potters Steelers handed defending champions Flyers Basketball their first defeat of the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABAA) Division 1 competition, winning the fixture 84-81 at the JSC Basketball Complex on Sunday.

Steelers were led by Cohen DeSouza who sank 29 points on eight of 15 shooting while grabbing 12 rebounds. DeSouza had a perfect night from beyond the arc, hitting all four of his three-point attempts while going nine from 11 on the free-throw line.

Kareem Edwards contributed with 18 points and four rebounds while there were contributions of 12 points each from Marlon “Buju” Charles and Keroi Lee.

Adonis Humphreys led the scoring for Flyerz with 18 points and nine rebounds while David Hernandez contributed with 14 points off the bench. There were 11 points each from Selassie Brathwaite and Xavier Meade with Meade also grabbing nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, in the night’s opening clash, Da Project defeated Northside Stingerz 83-66.

Sean Nicholas was the chief architect for Da Project, sinking 31 points and grabbing 20 rebounds. He was assisted by Donte Trimmingham who had 21 points and eight rebounds while Bryan Matthew picked up 11 points and nine rebounds. Nathan Matthew assisted with 11 points in the win.

Jevonte Valarie was the top scorer for Stingerz with 20 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. Ammiel Williams hit 12 points and pulled eight rebounds.
