A young man who was stabbed multiple times during an incident near Golden Grove earlier this month is said to be showing signs of improvement in hospital.

Shakiel Joseph, 24, was rushed to hospital on May 6 after an altercation which allegedly took place with a coworker from the National Solid Waste Management Authority.

The Tindale Road resident remains in the intensive care unit but is starting to sit up and hold short conversations, a source told Observer yesterday.

Joseph’s mother Abril Mullin also spoke briefly with Observer on Monday, saying her son had sustained injuries to his heart and lungs.

“He is trying to talk but having difficulties,” she explained, adding, “He is doing better and trying to sit up, praise the lord, but he is not out of the woods yet.”

An urgent appeal was put out for blood donations in the aftermath of the incident to help save Joseph.

A man has been charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear before court for a committal hearing on July 21.
