After giving almost 20 years to educating the country’s youngest minds, St. Patrick’s Child Development Centre will close indefinitely.
Noella Spencer, principal of the American Road pre-school, told OBSERVER media yesterday that there have been numerous complications in the rebuilding phase since the school building was damaged by fire in September.
“It is so heart wrenching. I didn’t even meet with my staff for long; I gave them an opportunity to go and see what was happening with the repairs which is part of the reason for the decision,” Spencer said.
On September 22, a week after the blaze, Spencer indicated that the school would likely be reopened in time for the January school term.
Then, parents were issued full refunds of school fees and were advised to enroll their toddlers elsewhere.
Spencer said it is usual at this time of the year for continued registration to take place for 2018 but she is unable to give a definitive date on when the repair work would be completed.
In a meeting at the school on Wednesday, Spencer said her staff were told that with the stripping away of the charred and burnt-out roof new issues were highlighted that must be fixed before the school can be reopened.
