The long-stalled Bolans Fire Station project has once again come under scrutiny, as the Member for Parliament for St Mary’s South, Kelvin Simon, is calling on the government to take immediate action.

According to the MP, the incomplete structure, located next to the Bolans Police Station, has remained in limbo for years, raising serious concerns about the safety and security of residents.

Citing a recent devastating house fire in Urlings, the MP highlighted the urgent need for a fully operational fire station in the area. “When emergencies strike, minutes matter,” the MP emphasized. “Yet, our first responders are left without the proper resources to protect us. This is a direct risk to both the police officers serving our community and the residents who depend on emergency services in times of crisis.”

Despite the recent addition of four new fire trucks and a ladder truck to the nation’s emergency fleet, Simon criticized the continued inadequacy of fire response capabilities in St Mary’s South.

Simon also stated that currently, the nearest available fire tender, stationed at All Saints Police Station, has a capacity of only 360 gallons—far below the minimum 1,000-gallon capacity recommended by experts for effective fire suppression.

“This is a reckless gamble with the lives and livelihoods of thousands of residents and businesses,” the MP asserted. “Instead of properly equipping our frontline defenders, we are expected to rely on inadequate resources. Our community deserves better protection, and we demand accountability from those responsible.”
