BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, May 4, CMC – A delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has arrived here to conduct a review of the St. Kitts-Nevis financial and economic development.
The team is led by Inci Otker and will hold talks with government, public, private sector and trade union officials during the 2017 Article Four (IV) Consultation.
The delegation met with Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr. Timothy Harris on Wednesday and a government statement issued Thursday noted that it had commended the authorities on their efforts to strengthen the controversial Citizenship-by-Investment (CBI) programme through which foreign investors are provided with citizenship in return for making significant contributions to the socio-economic development of the twin island Federation.
“During an Article IV consultation, an IMF team of economists visits a country to assess economic and financial developments and discuss the country’s economic and financial policies with government and central bank officials,” the IMF noted on its website.
