BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Jun 20, CMC – One person was shot and killed at the J.N. France Hospital Tuesday after a lone gunman entered the building in full view of staff and persons firing several gunshots at his victim.
Police said one person had been taken into custody following the death of 31-year-old Darnell Govia, the 16th homicide in the twin island Federation so far this year.
One eyewitness told reporters that the victim ran in the direction of the lab and was followed by the gunman who fired several bullets at him,
The incident in the vicinity of the laboratory on Tuesday morning caused widespread panic, with staff and other persons seeking cover.
The killing is the second such incident at the hospital in the past three years.
In September 2014 armed men entered the Emergency Room waiting area and shot 19 year old Kaheel Herbert, who was waiting for medical treatment at the facility.
