“Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today” – Malcolm X.
That’s the sentiment echoed by St George MP Algernon Watts, who is gearing up for his back-to-school distribution programme.
Around 100 school bags plus other essential items will be given to less fortunate children within his constituency.
MP Watts said he is cognisant that not every family has the financial means to provide their children with the necessary tools to learn.
“Understanding the grim economic reality facing parents in the country and, more specifically in St George, my team and I have been giving out school bags with books, pens, rulers, pencils, etc to assist the parents in whatever little way that we can,” he explained.
“We would have given out hundreds already to the three primary schools collectively in the constituency – being Pigotts Primary, Potters Primary and New Winthropes Primary – and it continues this Friday.
“We have 100 bags with books remaining from what we already gave out for graduation and so parents of the constituency who are in need – notice what I said, who are in need – just meet me at the branch office Friday afternoon at 3pm.”
He urged parents to call and register first due to limited supplies. The bags will be given out on a first come, first served basis. Call 720-9669.
