St Anthony's got off to a great start winning all six events on Monday

The 2022 Cool and Smooth Inter-school basketball league commenced on Monday with four schools battling it out in the Junior Boys Division.

St Anthony’s Secondary School (SASS) had a clean sweep against Antigua Grammar School (AGS) in all six events at the JSC Sports Complex.

Devonte McDonald defeated Najee Simons 8-7 in the Left-hand speed relay while in the Right-hand speed relay Aiden Crawford edged out D’andre Humphreys 8-7.

In the Individual Shoot-out, Tristen Richards beat Jamali Liverpool while Najee Simons and Jamali Liverpool went under to Joshua Archibald and Devonte Carter 23-15 in the two-man shoot out.

The team of Devonte McDonald, Aiden Crawford, Tristen Richards, Devonte Carter and Joshua Archibald had time of 2:22 beating AGS- Jamali Liverpool, Najee Simons, Ecker Shaw, Errol Osborne and D’andre Humphreys– time of 2:58 in the Five-man Skills Challenge.

The Five-man speed relay was also won by St Anthony’s.

Meanwhile, it was a tough battle between the Irene B Williams Secondary School (IBWSS) and All Saints Secondary School (ASSS) in the final match-up on the day, but ASSS would get the edge over Irene B, winning several events.

All Saints Secondary secured victories in the Five-man Skills Challenge, Two-man Shoot out, Five-man speed relay and Left-hand Speed relay.

The team of Dequante Tonge, Daivique Osborne, Shamar Farrell, Jevaughn Jarvis, Marcus Murphy beat Irene B’s team-Adrien Francis, Ralique Browne, Adriano Joseph, Patricio Henry with a time of 2:55.

Irene B had 3:09.

All Saints duo of Dequante Tonge and Rolique Osborne defeated Irene B’s duo Adrian Francis and Ralique Browne 27-19 in the Two-man shoot out while Shamar Farrell won the Left-hand spped relay edging out Adrien Francis of IBWSS.

Irene B did not go home empty-handed as they won the Individual shootout and Right-hand speed relay.

Adrien Francis beat Daivique Osborne 5-3 in the Individual shoot out, while Ralique Browne won the Right-hand speed relay beating Dequante Tonge of All Saints Secondary 6-5.

Matches will continue today starting at 2:30p.m. at the JSC Sports Complex.

In the Mini-boys Primary category, Liberta Primary will face Combine, while Greenbay Primary will battle Pigotts Primary.

Antigua Grammar School will face All Saints Secondary in the Mini-boys Secondary division.

Schools basketball is the first school sport to begin since all sports were forced to end in 2020 due to the ongoing Covid pandemic.
