Only a half-day’s play was possible in one match on a rain-affected weekend in the Antigua and Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA) Two Day Competition with Rising Sun Spartans claiming first innings points in a drawn match against Bethesda Golden Eagles.
Hosted at the Rising Sun ground, play started after lunch on day two after being abandoned on day one due to a wet outfield.
Winning the toss and opting to field, Spartans bowled out Golden Eagles for just 138 in just 39.1 overs. Teron Payne top-scored with 63 runs from 88 deliveries, slamming six fours and three sixes. Tassilo Allen was the pick if the bowlers for the home team, picking up four wickets for 32 runs in 6.1 overs. Player of the match, Shane Burton, snatched three for 23 in seven overs.
In their first innings reply, Spartans reached 142 for three in 16 overs. Junior Henry top-scored with 54 runs from 26 balls, while Allen made 44 off 34 balls. Burton was not out on 38 off 24 balls.
The draw put Spartans at the top of standings with 42 points, two points ahead of Pigotts Crushers and Empire Nation who are both on 40 points.
