Wayne’s Electrical Services (WES) Rising Sun Spartans will be looking to close out their best of three finals series against People’s Insurance Company (PIC) Liberta Blackhawks in Parish League’s Sir Vivian Richards Thursday League competition when they clash in game two at the Rising Sun Grounds on Thursday.

Spartans won the opening match when they met in Liberta last Thursday, stunning the home team to take an exciting two-runs triumph.

The Captain of the Spartans team and all-rounder, Kerry Mentore, said his players are well-aware of the prowess of the Liberta team and would not want the series to go to a game three.

“We want to win so we keep focused [and] we talk about it. The first game was a nailbiter; it was a good game and all exciting for the cricket, so we’re up to it, we are for it and we know the team we are coming up against. We can’t lay back and chillax and think that all is well. So, we want to close it out tomorrow at least; we don’t want to give them a sniff,” he said.

However, veteran player and all-rounder Kadeem Phillip believes that his Blackhawks team has what it takes to level the series and force a decisive game three in the series.

“I thought it was a good game last week Thursday, it was nail-biting and it came down to who wanted it the most that day, and Rising Sun really put their hands up and took it from us. But I definitely expect us to level the series, it’s a must because for us it’s win or go home,” he said.

Batting first in last Thursday’s opening match, Spartans posted 137 for six with Kadeem Henry getting a top knock of 66 not out and Mentore contributing with 24. Bowling for Blackhawks, veteran Elvis Weaver bagged three wickets for 19 runs.

When their turn at the crease arrived, Blackhawks were removed for 135. Their best effort came from Michael Greaves who made 66, and veteran Gavin Tonge chipped in with 23 runs. Bowling for the victors, Deran Benta claimed three for 21 while Mentore bagged three for 24.
