Spanish Heat and Wadadli Elite 1 advanced to the semifinal round of the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) Division 2 Playoffs following victories at the Ovals basketball court on Sunday.
Playing in the feature game of a double-header, Spanish Heat wrapped up their best of three series against Old Road Daggers with a 72-60 game-two triumph.
The dominant Spanish Heat outscored Daggers in three of four quarters with a 19-9 advantage in the first quarter before Daggers stormed back to take the second quarter 18-15. Spanish Heat rebounded in the third quarter to outscore their opponents 21-17 before taking the final quarter 17-16.
Steven Matthew led the charge for Spanish Heat with 21 points, four rebounds and five assists while Wilkin Floyd sank 14 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished seven assists. Jesus Emmanuel contributed with 11 points and five rebounds off the bench.
Ezekiel Francois top scored for Daggers with 24 points and 25 rebounds while Kevin Cornwall contributed with 10 points.
Meanwhile, Wadadli Elite 1 wrapped up their series against Flyers 2, winning game two by a 75-63 margin.
Elite dominated the contest, winning three of four quarters at the Ovals basketball court. They however went down 14-10 in the first quarter but rebounded to win the second quarter 19-17. Elite claimed the third quarter 25-18 before claiming the fourth and final quarter 21-14.
Tequan Brodie led the charge for the victors with 22 points, six rebounds and five assists while Donte Trimingham contributed with 18 points and 13 rebounds off the bench.
In a losing effort, T-Shawn Lewis sank a game-high 31 points and 15 rebounds while Javonte Daley chipped in with 10 points.
Game one in the semi-final round is slated for Wednesday at Ovals.
