Spanish Heat rebounded from their opening loss to Potters Steelers in the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) Division 1 competition with a blowout 37 points victory over Ottos Warriors on Thursday night.
Playing in the feature game of a double-header at the JSC Basketball Complex, Spanish Heat dominated the contest from start to finish, outscoring Warriors 13-8 in the first quarter, 28-23 in the second quarter, 27-8 in the third and 25-17 in the fourth and final quarter to take a 93-56 win.
Danny Perez was on fire for Spanish Heat, sinking a game-high of 30 points, grabbing four rebounds and dishing seven assists. Steven Matthew contributed with 18 points off the bench while Bernard Andrew picked up 11 points and 13 rebounds. Kelvyn Pimental also bagged 11 points in the winning effort.
For Warriors, Lincoln Weekes led the scoring with 18 points while grabbing five rebounds. There were 11 points each from Kebo Oxford and Michael Barton. Barton also grabbed 16 rebounds while Oxford picked up 13.
In Thursday’s other showdown, All Saints Slam got off to a winning start with a 66-58 win over Ottos Full Throttle.
Slam got off to a positive start, taking the first quarter 20-11. Full Throttle rebounded to take the second quarter 18-13 before Slam rebounded to take the third and fourth quarters 18-17 and 15-12 respectively.
Humroy Wright carried the scoring for Slam with 26 points and eight rebounds while Jason London contributed with 14 points off the bench. In a losing effort, Akeem Davis hit 12 points and bagged six rebounds, Warren Bogle sank 11 points and Nechus Jones had 10 points and five rebounds.
