Former South African batsman, Nic Pothas, has been appointed interim head coach of the Windies
Men’s team with immediate effect.
He will lead the technical team for the Bangladesh Tour which consists of 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, 3 T20Is series.
He takes over the reins of the Windies team with the benefit of previous experience.
In July 2016, Pothas was appointed as the fielding coach of Sri Lanka and on 27 June, 2017, with the resignation of head coach Graham Ford, the Sri Lanka Cricket appointed Pothas as the interim coach for the Zimbabwe and Indian tours.
Director of Cricket, Jimmy Adams, has expressed confidence in the former South African batsman. “Having Nic lead the team at this juncture is important for continuity and we look forward to strong and positive performances from the squad under his leadership,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pothas said he was honoured to be handed control of the Caribbean side.
“It is an honour to be asked to be the head coach of the West Indies Cricket team for the immediate future. The Bangladesh series will be a tough challenge which we look forward to embracing,” he said.
The first Test bowls off today.
The Windies squad includes Kraigg Brathwaite – Captain, Sunil Ambris, Devendra Bishoo, Roston Chase, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Jahmar Hamilton, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope, Shermon Lewis, Keemo Paul, Kieran Powell, Raymon Reifer, Kemar Roach and Jomel Warrican. (SportsMax)
