Sociologist Dr. Ekua Richards is among residents questioning the authenticity of recently-released crimes statistics for last year. The police say they received 500 fewer reports of crimes in 2016 when compared with the year before.
That’s a 15 per cent drop…
Richards says she has been riled up since hearing the stats.

Richards says as a victim of crime, she understands why some residents do not make reports to the police.

Another caller to Observer AM says she has no confidence in the statistics.

The police say reports of praedial larceny fell from 24 to 16.

The country recorded eight murders in 2016 compared with five in 2015.
A woman who said she was a relative of 2013 murder victim, Susan Powell has told Observer AM the police have done a poor job of communicating with the family.

However, activist, Cleon Athill says she not only welcomes the news that crime is down but believes the stats are true since there’s a difference between reported crime and anecdotal data.
She believes though there is a disconnect between the police and residents.
