An initiative in the form of a one-day master-class, will be launched on February 20 in Antigua and Barbuda, aimed at addressing the often-overlooked challenges of postpartum life, thereby offering mothers a comprehensive approach to physical, emotional and mental wellness.
The Snapback Challenge, created by Dr Saran King, commented on support needed by mothers throughout the entire journey from conception to delivery and thereafter. Recognising their busy schedules, mothers and interested parties can access the class in a one-day format, which will replace the traditional three-day program.
Dr King noted that the program will take a holistic approach to postpartum recovery, moving beyond traditional fitness goals to addressing the complex realities of motherhood.

“It’s learning about accepting the body that you have while you’re working on the body that you desire. And also learning the changes that come with motherhood, learning the myths and misconceptions with having a baby,” Dr King said.
Drawing from her own experiences as a mother and healthcare provider, Dr King challenges common narratives about motherhood that can contribute to postpartum stress. She also debunks common perceptions that in order to focus on the new addition, a woman should put her dreams on hold after giving birth.
Her approach will be supported by research and will highlight the crucial role of community support in recovery and wellness.

“Support is always at the top of anything that I’m doing. The studies will show that persons who have support, do better at recovering from life challenges. When persons have strong support systems, they do better,” Dr King said.
She added that the initiative will include an active WhatsApp group that will focus on breastfeeding and mental health as well as providing a space for participants to share experiences, seek advice and build connections with others facing similar challenges.
