New Generation Slam and Rebels were winners in the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) Division 2 competition on Tuesday when action resumed at the JSC basketball complex.
Contesting the first game of a double-headed, Slam handed Wadadli Elite 1 their third defeat of the competition, beating them by a slim 71-68 margin.
Slam got off to a flying start, outscoring Elite 19-11 in the first quarter before Elite roared back to win the second quarter 23-9. Slam were however determined, bouncing back to dominate the third quarter by a 20-11 margin. The teams were evenly poised 23-23 in the fourth quarter.
John Rolland Jr led the way for Slam with 25 points and 19 rebounds while Anjis Anthony contributed with 16 points off the bench. Anthony also grabbed 11 rebounds in the process. There was assistance as well from Keaddy Martin who sank 15 points and held five rebounds.
Tequan Brodie was the top scorer for Elite with 32 points and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Rebels outscored Ovals Superiors 82-59 in the night’s feature contest.
Rebels outscored their opponents in three of the four quarters, dominating the first quarter 22-11, winning the second 21-13 before going under 20-14 in the third. Rebels rebounded to take the fourth and final quarter by a 25-15 margin.
Zuri Nesbitt top-scored for Rebels with 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists while Buell Henry contributed 17 points and six rebounds.
In a losing effort, Shamori Bascus top scored for Superiors with 20 points off the bench. He also grabbed five rebounds.
