His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams, Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda, has been honoured with two distinguished awards during his recent visit to India.

At the 25th International Conference of Chief Justices, Heads of States, and Heads of Governments, held in Lucknow from November 20 to 24, Sir Rodney received the Mahatma Gandhi Award for his unwavering support for World Unity and World Peace. Additionally, he was recognized for his significant contributions to Education and Humanitarianism.

As a Guest of Honour at the conference, Sir Rodney chaired several sessions and shared his insights on critical global issues, including Sustainable Development, Climate Action, Financing, and the challenges facing today’s youth and their future development.

The conference convened 156 delegates from 56 countries, providing a platform to exchange ideas aimed at enhancing the social, legal, technological, physical, and moral environment for over 2.5 billion children and future generations.

In his remarks, Sir Rodney emphasised the importance of strengthening ties between India and the Caribbean, particularly in technology and education. He noted that Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda was concurrently discussing these initiatives at the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit in Guyana.

Expressing his gratitude, Sir Rodney stated: “I am humbled by this accolade, which reflects the collective efforts of many professionals dedicated to the vision initiated by the late Dr Jagdish Gandhi and his widow Mrs Bharti Gandhi some twenty-five years ago.”

The awards were presented by Mrs Gandhi at a special ceremony during the Conference.
