Sir Novelle Richards Academy and AGS win big in schools cricket

Sir Novelle Richards Academy (SNRA) and the Antigua Grammar School (AGS) were winners in the under-15 division of the 50 Overs Schools Cricket Competition contested Friday.

In a fairly one-sided affair, Sir Novelle Richards Academy defeated Pares Secondary School (PSS) by seven wickets.

Batting first, Pares were bowled out for 91 with their best effort coming from Orian Tonge with 24 runs. Shawn Balgobin was best on show with the ball for the winners, claiming three wickets for 17 runs in four overs.

When their turn at the crease arrived, Sir Novelle Richards Academy swept to 93 for three in just 10.4 overs. Jared John-Baptiste accounted for most of his team’s runs with 47.

Meanwhile, Antigua Grammar School had the better of Ganvilles Secondary School (GSS) by 66 runs.

Batting first, AGS posted 136 for five in 19 overs. Ronaldo Antigua was not out on 41 alongside Mehki Simmons who also batted not out for 13 runs. Tyree Moore also made a contribution with the bat as he had 17 runs in the team’s total. Zabia Floyd was the chief wicket-taker for Glanvilles, bagging two wickets for 13 runs in four overs.

Chasing the target, Glanvilles could only get to 70 for five in their allotment of 19 overs in the rain- affected contest. Ackram Punter top scored with 16 not out.

Treyvorn Francis snatched two wickets for 12 runs in three overs for AGS while Moore, Simmons and Jevonte Joseph all had one wicket each.
