Lasselles Ryan came up with the $20,000 that a court recently fined him for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, so, he has avoided going to jail.

The order, handed down by All Saints Court Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel-Edwards, was that the Jennings man must pay $15,000 right away for gun possession and another $5,000 for possession of seven rounds of ammunition.

Alternatively, the shopkeeper would have been jailed for 18 months for the gun and six months for the ammunition found at his home when the police executed a search warrant there last week.

Ryan, who also pleaded guilty to possession of 11 pounds of cannabis, was fined $40,000 for that and he has 12 months within which to pay, otherwise he would be jailed for two years.

He told the court he will make the payment.

Meanwhile, the magistrate ordered the forfeiture of over EC $4,000 and US $500 which the police found at the property during their operation.

Ryan’s girlfriend, Stacy-Ann Browne, who was jointly charged with him for the above offences, walked free of those charges after she pleaded not guilty.

However, she remains in the custody of the Immigration Department for allegedly overstaying her time here.

The Jamaican national who has three children with Ryan, is to return to court today in relation to the immigration matter.
