Shooting victim recovering at home

Three weeks after Aiden “Muscle” Russell was shot, a relative has told OBSERVER media that he has since been released from the hospital and is at home recovering.
Russell who is said to be of unsound mind was shot after he allegedly attacked businessman Bertsfield Smithen at his Ounces Ice Cream Parlour and Grill in Parham on September 14.
The relative said the Parham man was released from the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre last week and has been home recovering from the bullet wounds to his hand and side.
The relative said he is very mobile and is moving about a lot, but, is complaining of “a lot of pain”.
Police charged Smithen with shooting with intent to do grievous bodily harm to Russell.
The businessman was remanded to prison at his first court appearance before a magistrate.
Smithen was later granted bail for $60,000 and ordered to deposit $10,000 to secure his immediate release and he had to surrender his travel documents.
He was further ordered to report the Willikies Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays until the matter is concluded or until the court orders otherwise.
It was earlier reported the shooting occurred after the Russell allegedly threatened to kill Smithen. There was a confrontation and Smithen was reportedly struck on the head while Russell was shot twice in the abdominal area.
Both men were transported to the hospital and Russell underwent surgery for damage to his liver.
