Cheryl Thompson is blaming herself after her 26- year-old son, Jalon “Shantii Town” Thompson, was fatally stabbed at her business place yesterday morning, eight days into his summer vacation in Antigua & Barbuda.
The deceased, who resided in Orlando, Florida, arrived in the country on June 28 for the Carnival festivities, but a confrontation with one of the DJs at Cheryl’s Jam Dung Night Club resulted in the up and coming musician being stabbed in the heart.
“He didn’t want to come and I told him the song [for Soca Monarch competition] sound good and I even sent the airline ticket,” a weeping Thompson told OBSERVER media.
“It’s barely been a week and now I have to go plan funeral. Jalon don’t trouble people, he is not a fighter. Lord, my good, good son gone.”
According to a police report, the deceased and the 28-year-old suspected stabber, of Gray’s Farm, apparently had an ongoing feud over a previous incident which took place at the nightclub and at around 3:35 yesterday morning, they got into a fight and the incident ended with young Thompson being stabbed at least once in the heart, hospital sources said.
An inconsolable Thompson could be heard weeping for her third child. Speaking through tears, Thompson said she did not know of any bad blood between the accused and her son.
“I don’t know what happened. But, some girl came to the club and [the suspected stabber] chucked her, so Jalon went to find out what happened. Before [yesterday] I never saw that girl before,” Thompson recounted.
The bleeding youth was transported to Mount St John’s Medical Centre in the back of his mother’s pick-up truck, as his older brother held onto him where relatives believed he “bled out”.
Jalon was pronounced dead an hour later at the hospital.
