Retracing the final footsteps of Sevorn Burton as he took his final breaths running down the precarious hill of a local farmer’s land and onto the jagged stone road of Lindsay’s Estate highlighted the remoteness of the area yesterday.
Local residents pointed Observer to the exact location where Burton was apparently declared dead by medical officials, hours after police officers received reports of a shooting.
Burton – an alleged known criminal – is said to have been killed with his own gun during an armed robbery at a private home in the quiet community near Parham. The elderly homeowner, who Observer is not naming while police investigations continue, apparently seized the gun during a scuffle and shot Burton several times.
An injured Burton is said to have fled the scene before collapsing and dying a short distance away.
The mere fact that Burton was able to escape nursing reportedly multiple gunshot wounds may allude to his knowledge of the area, which some residents told Observer also spoke to his checkered past with law enforcement.
One resident pointed out the challenge that locals have in receiving assistance from the police in Parham due to the remote location and rocky road.
Additionally, another described several previous incidents involving the alleged shooter and criminals in the area. A family member of the shooter described injuries sustained during a previous break-in attempt, although these claims are currently unverified.
One resident claimed that Burton had also been involved in previous incidents with the shooter but would always escape from the scene by the time police arrived.
However, at approximately 10:30am on September 16, police reported that officers responded to and encountered the motionless body of Burton, lying face down.
While authorities have not released detailed information about the incident, they have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
